Tour Description
Your tour begins with a hearty and wholesome breakfast at the Lodge from 7am.

You will then be picked up from lodge and driven to Lake Hawea, one of New Zealand’s most spectacularly clear, blue lakes. From the lodge in Cardrona Valley, your journey takes you through the foothills of the Pisa Ranges, home to wild Red Deer, pigs, and elusive Chamois. Past the thriving township of Wanaka, and on to the West Coast highway, the drive in itself is a scenic wonder.

Lake Hawea is truly beautiful. Wild, pure and surrounded by magnificent mountains, the lake is full of Rainbow and Brown Trout and Chinook Salmon, and is so clear you can still see the bottom from meters deep.
Picture
The lake and its ruggedly untamed mountains is  the gateway to the incredilbe Dingle Burn Valley and the station of the same name.
Off the beaten track, you’ll then head along the lakefront on a little known lakeside drive to Dingleburn Station.  Running the length of the lake on its far eastern border, this is a drive seldom used by anyone other than locals. It’s a stunner with several perfect spots to stop and take photos, including the Timaru Creek river delta.

Once you reach Dingleburn Station the mind-blowing views only get more special. This is your own private paradise, not accessible to the public, and with so many incredilbe views you’re spoiled for photo opportunities. There’ll be several scenic viewing stops as you head for a delectable, healthy, picnic lunch over-looking over the extraordinary Hunter Valley.

After lunch you’ll begin your return visit with a couple of extra scenic stops on the way back to the lodge, including a visit to the famously beautiful Wanaka Lavender Farm. The farm has a shop full of delectable lavender treats including lavender honey, lavender sugar, lavender cookies and lavender creams, oils, and balms.

4WD Historic Mace town Tour

Departure – 8.30am
Trip duration – 8 hours
Finish – 4.30pm

Operates November - April only, all tours are subject to weather conditions.

Price for Adult and Children  $499 per person
a minimum booking for 2 people and maximum of 4 people on each tour

Your tour begins with a hearty and wholesome breakfast at the Lodge from 7am.

You will then be picked up from lodge and driven across the stunning and miraculous Crown Range – the highest paved highway in New Zealand! The Crown Range connects Wanaka and Cardrona Valley to the Queenstown lakes basin and Arrowtown, which is where you’ll be headed.

Arrowtown is a beautifully quaint village nestled in the lee of connecting mountain ranges. The valleys and gullys around the twon have created many amazing walks and tracks and they are populated by wild goats that sometimes come right down to the tracks.

One of the most incredible journeys around this stunning area is the Macetown track. A rugged 4 wheel drive experience, there are roughly 27 river crossings – and depending on the season, some can be pretty exciting! This is truly 4 wheel driving at its best with challenging slips, demanding tracks and the river crossings adding a real sense of off-road adventure.

Macetown is located at the end of this 45 minute adventure and is well worth the trip. It is an old abandoned gold mining township and most of the buildings and shantys are well gone, but some remain and are testament to the hard-won history of the gold miners of the 1860’s who came to Macetown to find their fortune.

Plenty of spots for fantastic photos, this is an epic trip deep into the heart of New Zealand’s and the regions rugged history. A delicious picnic lunch is included and will be served in Macetown at one of the many picturesque locations.

The journey back is just as fun as the first time! Approaching the river crossings from a different angle really does change the experience! Once you’re back on solid road, you’ll head back up and over the gorgeous Crown Range just in time to catch the afternoon golden light at the lodge.
